STS are a Transportation Services company with a difference and employ over 3100 team members across the UAE.  Operating in the school transport and private hire market, we are responsible for the Safe, Timely, Smart transportation services of more than 80,000 students every day.  The organisation is undergoing significant growth across the GCC and we need an experienced Transport Operations Manager who can help us to manage our fleet and drivers effectively.  The role holder needs to be a strong and capable man manager with excellent organisational and people skills.   

Job Purpose:
 
  • The Transport Operations Manager will be responsible for the delivery of effective and cost-efficient transport services for STS.  Supporting the Head of Service Delivery, the role will manage the utilisation of fleet and manpower against agreed operational KPI’s and performance measures. 

  • Managing the qualitative and quantative data they will provide direction and Leadership to the Transport Supervisors, liaising with both the Planning function and Operations Control Centre (OCC) to ensure STS delivers on its promises. 

  • Managing a fleet of over 2800 vehicles this role is hands-on and requires an individual with a track record of success in a similar fast paced environment.  The role needs to maintain and exceed current service standards and instil a sense of pride and professionalism within the team, with a focus on Health and Safety in everything we do.  

  • Managing compliance and overall performance of the operation the role requires someone with in-depth knowledge of the GCC in the areas of legislation, productivity, quality, safety and customer service in line with Industry best practice bus operations.

  • Sound commercial acumen is essential as a thorough understanding of how each element in the transport environment drives cost and profit will be required.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential as are excellent people/man management skills.  The Operations Manager will work with the HR team to deal with all personnel related issues (recruitment, appraisals, grievance, disciplinary and ensuring that the appropriate level of training is carried out within the transport team).

  • Effective Leadership of the day to day requires a can-do attitude and an energetic and enthusiastic approach

Key Responsibilities:
    • Ensure optimal use of vehicles and manpower.

    • Ensure proper allocation and utilisation of spare resources.

    • Responsible for monitoring and controlling fuel and other operational costs.

    • Liaise with the Head of Operations to determine the annual training plan.

    • Overall supervision of the operations team.

    • Review the effectiveness of the approach to accident investigation and plan remedial activity that minimises risk and cost of vehicle accidents.

    • Regularly review the effectiveness of fleet inspection regimes.

    • Work closely with PRO/GRO teams to manage the overall requirements for permits, (driver and vehicle).

    • Work in partnership with QHSE team to manage quality management activities.

    • Responsible for routing and route consolidation of services.

    • Coordinating all operational activities of STS /BBT with the Head of Operations and Branch Managers of BBT for the smooth functioning of daily operations.

    • Work closely with the maintenance teams to optimise fleet maintenance regimes and availability.

Education and Work History::
     
    • Bachelor's Degree required in transportation, supply chain or logistics and/or bachelor’s degree in management related field.

    • Over five years of experience in transportation, with strong analytical skills and numerate ability are essential.

    • Previous supervisory/management experience.

    • Experience of implementation of dynamic routing tools, Transportation Management System (TMS) is a plus.

    • Planning and organisational skills; basic proficiency in MS Office and a TMS.

    • Demonstrated ability to effect cost reductions and/or improvements to asset-based transportation network across multiple facilities.

    • Facilitate cross-functional communications amongst team members to foster timely resolution of project obstacles.
